On their website, they respond to how they got their name: We are named after fighter-for-justice Mary Harris "Mother" Jones. She was in it for the underdog, pursued justice to the highest reaches, and saw significant results in her lifetime. |
Mother Jones and The Children's Crusade is an original musical, with book, music and lyrics by Cheryl E Kemeny. A production of the show, directed by Michelle Tattenbaum, produced by Benjamin Simpson and starring Lynne Winterstellar, was put on for 2014's New York Musical Theater Festival ("About").
The show centers on Mother Jones's famous "Children's Crusade" in which she led a group of children workers from textile mills in a march from Pennsylvania to President Roosevelt's home in New York (McFarland 285-295).
